Promotion Test Dates Announced

Our next promotion test dates at YCTKD Headquarters are as follows:

Color Belt Test: June 7, 2013 @ 6pm

Black Belt Test: June 8, 2013 @10am (2nd Dan and up) & 12:30pm (1st Dan)

That’s 4 weeks away, keep training as you have been and it should all work out great! Figh-Ting!

Unsung Heroes…

After finishing a successful run at this year’s Canada Open, I was sure to give all the coaches and athletes their congratulations and  just due. As the “face” of the sport, all the athletes and coaches did their very best to represent their school at the country’s premier international event. 2013 Canada Open Results: Day 3 & 4

Day 3 started rough as most of our Cadets (black belts 12-14) were shut out of the medal rounds fighting hard against top level competition with the exception of silver medalist Angus Worley who lost in the light-heavyweight final in his first hi-performance competition. However, there was a light at the end of the tunnel in the form of Marko Belevski, who floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee in  four gutsy matches to earn himself a bronze in the Youth (10-11) flyweight division. Congratulations to all the warriors that went down fighting.

2013 Canada Open Results: Day 2

Day 2 showed continued success as the Canadian Forces’ Angelica Bertucca (female bantam) and Kevin Gilmore (jr male middle) took home their first international medals in hard fought bronze medal matches. Jordan Stewart (jr male heavy) was in action again, earning a silver medal by dominating his competition but eventually losing in an exciting back forth final against his American counterpart. Our first experience in Team Poomse earned Charlotte McAfee-Brunner, Kelly Morrison and Kaitlyn Wiens some silver covered hardware. Amelia McAfee-Brunner (AWAD Poomse) and Alicia Camacho (jr female bantam) also took home uncontested golds.

2013 Canada Open Results: Day 1

Day 1 of Canada Open finished successfully for YCTKD as bronzes were earned by Siddhartha Bhat (male feather), Matthew Stewart (male light) and Jordan Stewart (male middle) while the Canadian Force’s Yvette Yong (female fin) took home a silver for her performance. Solid efforts were also put in by Sydney O’Shaughnessy (female fin), Bernard Lorde (male feather) and Alex Mayotte (male bantam). Congratulations everybody on your hard fought efforts!

Summer Camp Dates Announced!

Its that time of year again and YCTKD is once again preparing for this years Summer Training Camp. Our camps have proven to be very effective in the development of our students as technical skills sharpen, competition results improve, team bonds strengthen and focus/fitness shoot to another level by the time school starts again in September!

Canada Open 2013

As teams from around the province, the country and the rest of the globe prepare for the Canada Open in Toronto from May 2-5, 2013… YCTKD will be closed on May 3/4 as over 30 of our high performance team members will be competing in Taekwondo Canada’s biggest international event of the year. Good luck to all athletes! 44!
